Dairy Show held Thursday of fair at 9:30 AM

 

RULES

(Refer also to General Rules)

1. Animals must have official ear tags or official legible breed registration tattoo.

2. Cattle showing clinical signs of contagious or infectious disease, including active ringworm, warts, lice, mange, etc. will not be admitted to any show.

3. All Pennsylvania cattle must be accompanied by a “Certificate of Veterinary Inspection”, dated March 1 or later, that is signed by an accredited veterinarian, that includes a statement that the animal(s) identified have been immunized against IBR, PI3, and BVD. No tuberculosis test or brucellosis test is required for Pennsylvania cattle.

4. Animals that have never been vaccinated against BVD or have not been vaccinated against BVD during the previous 12 months, must receive one dose of modified live virus vaccine given at least 15 days, and not more than 180 days before the show, or two doses of killed vaccine, two or four weeks apart, with the last dose given 15 days and not more than 180 days before the show.

5. Animals that have been vaccinated against BVD within the previous 12 months must receive at least a single injection of modified live virus or killed vaccine given not less than 15 days and not more than 180 days before the show.

Important! The date of the last live virus vaccination, or the dates of the last two killed virus vaccinations, must be recorded on the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.

6. Hyperimmune serum may not be used as a substitute for the above vaccination requirement.

7. Ribbons will be awarded to 1st through 5th places in all breeds; and to Junior, Reserve Junior, Senior, Reserve Senior, Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion.

8. Dairy cattle entries must be in the hands of Director Donald Walters by August 15th.

9. There will be a $2.00 entry fee per animal.

10. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection, vaccination papers, Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship form will be checked by department personnel prior to unloading each animal.

11. Stall space will be assigned according to pre-entry. Exhibitors shall keep their area attractive and cooperate with the department superintendent.

12. A Supreme Champion Female will be selected from the Grand Champions in the open and youth show after the final open class is judged. Grand Champions will be milked before the selection of Supreme Champion.

13. The 4-H and Vocational Division is open to Snyder County members only. Judging will be held on Thursday at 9:30 am. The Junior division will be followed by the senior division.

14. Each exhibitor must complete the pre-registration form and list all classes in which they wish to participate. Do not enter champion class numbers-qualified entries will be called prior to the start of the classes.

15. The show order for 2008 will be: Black & White Holstein, Brown Swiss, Ayrshire, Jersey, Red & White Holstein, Guernsey, Milking Shorthorn, Lineback

16. Animals other than those appearing in the premium list will not be accepted. Dairy exhibits will remain in the pens or stalls until 9:00 pm on Saturday. Exhibitors will forfeit all premiums if their animals are removed prior to this time. Animals must be checked by department personnel before animal entries are unloaded or removed.

17. Dairy entries must be checked in with the department personnel by 7:30 pm on Monday, September 15, 2008.

18. Exhibitors staying on the grounds overnight must register at the fair office. Exhibitors under 18 years of age must present a permission slip. Permission slips are available from the fair office.

19. Dairy and livestock exhibitors must supply their own feed and bedding.

20. No animal shall be on the premises if it has been administered a forbidden substance in any manner. A forbidden substance is any stimulant, depressant, or local anesthetic which might affect the behavior of an animal. No drugs are permitted to be administered to any animal without the permission of the department superintendent or an accredited veterinarian.

21. In the event of death of an animal, the exhibitor must provide an autopsy by an accredited veterinarian and subsequent tests to determine the cause of the animal’s death.

22. All dairy and livestock exhibitors must submit a copy of the “Animal Owner or Caretaker’s Verification of Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship” when their animals are checked in by fair personnel.
