The purpose of the Beaver Fair Queen Competition Program is to encourage the promotion of agriculture through the Beaver Fair, and to create better relations between youth and adults in both rural and urban settings.

CONTEST RULES

 

EACH CONTESTANT MUST:

1.       Meet at least one of the following criteria:

·        Be a resident of Snyder County, Pennsylvania.

·        Be a registered student of a Snyder County high school or university.

·        Be a member of a Snyder County 4H club or FFA chapter.

2.     Be at least 16 years of age and not over 20 years of age by June 1, 2008.

3.     Have her parent or guardian's written consent.

4.     Be single, never married, have had no children. Also, the winner must not marry, nor become pregnant during her reign.

5.     Not be a former queen of another fair in Pennsylvania, nor have been a state fair queen contestant in Pennsylvania.

6.     Must attend an orientation meeting.

7.     Must agree to follow the rules set forth by the State Fair Queen Committee in order to compete at the state competition in January where a $1500 scholarship toward education will be awarded to the winner.

Must be available for some appearances during the Beaver Community Fair.

COMPETITION:

1.       No entry fee required.

2.     Be available for interview on Saturday afternoon, September 20, 2008.  (Business attire)

3.     Be available for speech judging and crowning on Saturday, afternoon, September 20, 2008, to be held on the stage.  (Formal attire, i.e. prom)

4.  Judging will consist of:

  • Personal interview utilizing your biographical information and other questions.
  • Knowledge of the fair industry
  • Presentation of speech on "Why You Should Come To My Fair" (3 to 5 minutes)
  • Written essay of 300 words or less on "What My Fair Means to My Community"
  • Poise, appearance, neatness and ability to communicate.

 

 

DUTIES OF THE “BEAVER FAIR QUEEN”

  • The winner will reign for one year.
  • She must be available to attend several functions during Beaver Fair  week, September, 2009 deemed necessary by Beaver Fair officials.
  • She must attend and participate in other activities and functions.
  • State fair queen competition in January at the state convention at the expense of the Beaver Fair Association.  (The fair association will provide a chaperone.)
  • Speaking engagements and functions throughout the year of her reign.
  • Beaver Fair Queen Crowning September 2009.

 

All contestants will receive an individual gift. In addition, the winner and alternate will each receive cash awards:  $500 and $250 respectively. One half of the cash awards will be presented at the end of the fair.  The second half will be presented at the end of their reign.

Contestants are judges on:

  • Personal interview

  • Contestant's knowledge of the fair industry

  • Contestant's presentation of a three to five minute speech on "Why You Should Come to My Fair"

  • Written essay of 300 words or less on "What My Fair Means to My Community"

  • Contestant's poise, appearance, neatness and ability to communicate
