Beaver Community Fair Queen

Monday, September 19, 2011 - 6:00 PM

The purpose of the Beaver Fair Queen Competition Program is to encourage the promotion of agriculture through the Beaver Fair, and to create better relations between youth and adults in both rural and urban settings.

All contestants will receive an individual gift. In addition, the winner and alternate will each receive cash awards of $500 and $250 respectively.

The due date for the queen competition entry and biography is September 1 - it will not be extended.

Contest Rules

Each Contestant Must:

  1. Meet at least one of the following criteria:
    • Be a resident of Snyder County, Pennsylvania.
    • Be a registered student of a Snyder County high school or university.
    • Be a member of a Snyder County 4H club or FFA chapter.
  2. Be at least 16 years of age and not over 20 years of age by June 1.
  3. Have written consent of a parent or guardian.
  4. Be single, never married, have had no children. Also, the winner must not marry, nor become pregnant during her reign.
  5. Not be a former queen of another fair in Pennsylvania, nor have been a state fair queen contestant in Pennsylvania.
  6. Must attend an orientation meeting.
  7. Must agree to follow the rules set forth by the State Fair Queen Committee in order to compete at the state competition in January where a $1500 scholarship toward education will be awarded to the winner.
  8. Must be available for some appearances during the Beaver Community Fair and other fair events.

Competition:

  1. No entry fee required.
  2. Be available for interview on Sunday evening, September 18, 2011 (Business attire).
  3. Be available for speech judging and crowning on Monday evening, September 19, 2010, to be held on the stage (Formal attire, i.e. prom).
  4. Judging will consist of:
    • Personal interview utilizing your biographical information and other questions.
    • Knowledge of the fair industry.
    • Presentation of speech on "Why You Should Come To My Fair" (3 to 5 minutes)
    • Written essay of 300 words or less on "What My Fair Means to My Community"
    • Poise, appearance, neatness and ability to communicate.

Duties of the Beaver Fair Queen

  1. The Winner will reign for one year.
  2. She must be available to attend several functions during the 2011 Beaver Fair as deemed necessary by Beaver Fair officials.
  3. She must attend and participate in other activities and functions, including:
    - Speaking engagements throughout the year
    - Public appearances throughout the year
    - Assist with events during the Beaver Fair
    - Assist with the crowning of the next Beaver Fair Queen
  4. She must participate in the State Fair Queen competition in January at the state convention in Hershey at the expense of the Beaver Fair Association. (The fair association will provide a chaperone.)
  5. The Queen and Alternate must send a report to the Fair Queen Committee every two months. The repost must include information on the activities and events completed and plans of upcoming activities and events.

Beaver Fair Queen Requirements

  1. PA State Fair Queeen Competition - Required 20 pts
  2. Youth Activities - 5 pts
    4-H, FFA meetings (other than own club or chapter), School event i.e. - sheep to shaw & Food for America
  3. Give a Presentation or Speech at an event - 5 pts
  4. Public Appearances - 5 pts
    Ex: Parades, Dairy Days, Farm & Non Farm meetings
  5. Publicity - 5 pts
    Ex: Radio interview, Public Service Announcement, Newspaper Articles*
    *Articles are to be submited to the Fair Queen Committee
  6. Beaver Fair Week Events - 10 pts
    Ex: Livestock shows, livestock sale, tractor pull, & Fair Queen Crowning
  7. Scrapbook to document activities - 15 pts
  8. Create & display a booth at the Beaver Fair - 15 pts

Required to earn 100 approved points

Beaver Fair Queen Alternate Requirements

  1. Attend PA Sate Fair Queen Banquet - 10 pts
  2. Youth Activites - 5 pts
    4-H, FFA meetings (other than own club or chapter), School event i.e. - sheep to shaw & Food for America
  3. Give a Presentation or Speech at an event - 5 pts
  4. Public Appearances - 5 pts
    Ex: Parades, Dairy Days, Farm & Non Farm meetings
  5. Publicity - 5 pts
    Ex: Radio interview, Public Service Announcement, Newspaper Articles*
    *Articles are to be submited to the Fair Queen Committee
  6. Beaver FairWeek Events - 10 pts
    Ex: Livestock shows, livestock sale, tractor pull, & Fair Queen Crowning
  7. Scrapbook to document activities - 20 pts
  8. Assist the Queen in the creation and display booth at the Beaver Fair - 20 pts

Required to earn 100 approved points

Distribution of Prize Money

  1. The Queen and Alternate will receive $125.00 and $75.00 respectively after the State fair convention at Hershey.
  2. Additional prize money will be earned in 25 point increments through fulfillment of promotional requirements completed to the satisifaction of the Fair Queen Committee.
  3. For each 25 points earned, the Queen and Alternate shall earn $93.75 and $43.75, which will presented at the end of their reign.
  4. For every 20 points above the required 100, the Queen & Alternate may earn additional
    money.
  5. The Queen & Alternate shall receive money toward mileage for every 5 approved traveling promotions she completes.
  6. Due to the newness of the program and minimal funding the dollar amounts for both mileage and additonal promotions will be determined at the end of the Queen’s reign, and will be awarded with the rest of the prize money.
